The Cyprus Energy Agency and the BLUE DEAL partnership are hosting the 3rd BLUE DEAL Transferring Lab on the 14-17 June 2021 in Cyprus, which is being held under the auspices of Larnaca Municipality. The Lab will take place in hybrid mode combining online and on-site presentations and will focus on Blue Energy related opportunities in Cyprus, as well as the wider Mediterranean area.
The main aim of the Lab is to present and discuss the marine renewable potential on the island of Cyprus with a diverse set of stakeholders, in order to develop a set of recommendations that can support integration and deployment of marine renewables in Cyprus and promote development of the industry.
The first day of the Lab, June 14, is dedicated to understanding and discussing the policy framework related to maritime developments and the future energy targets of the country. The second day, June 15, will present the results of the scientific and technical work conducted by the BLUE DEAL partnership, and show a preliminary set of pilot locations for the development of different Blue Energy technologies. The importance of integrating considerations related to the interaction of Blue Energies with other users of the sea, such as marine life, archaeology and tourism will be discussed.
The third day, June 16 will focus on industry and aims to highlight success stories, future opportunities, and different funding mechanisms available. The Lab will end on June 17, with an Open Panel Discussion on the development of regional alliances for the Blue Economy across the Mediterranean region, with distinguished speakers from Israel, Egypt and the European Union. The Open Panel Discussion will be moderated by the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute. The Lab is being organised with the support of the Maritime Institute of Eastern Mediterranean.
