Our idea is about the development of a technological solution to save electric energy along the coastal road, Themistokli Sofouli, in the town of Samos. We will use solar energy so that intensity of the road lights may be adapted depending on the time and the peak of traffic on coastal road.
In more detail:
·
The lighting of the entire coastal road must be
upgraded with LED lamps.
·
A solar panel will be placed in each lighting column
which will collect energy from the sun. The solar energy will be stored in a battery.
·
The lights at the coastal road will turn on
automatically after sunset with the help of a light sensor.
· During the night or at times when the coastal road does not have heavy traffic, the brightness of the lights will be reduced
· With the help of infrared sensors located at the base of each column, the motion of each object that crosses the road (e.g. car) will be detected to increase the brightness of each streetlight.
· When
no motion is detected the brightness will gradually decrease.
Some impacts for the inland will be:
· Saving of electricity due to led lamps.
· Using solar energy as a renewable energy source
will reduce electricity consumption from other sources in which pollutants are discharged
into the environment. This pollution leads to the greenhouse effect.
· Reducing light pollution which adversely affects
many species of animals including the flight patterns of birds.
· Finally, new lighting methods are used through new technologies, always with respect for the environment.
Our team consists of 12 -14 year old students, who deal with robotics and the impact of new technologies on society.
